In my hand I hold a ball, white and dimpled - rather small.
Oh, how bland it does appear, this harmless looking little sphere.
By its size I could not guess, the awesome strength it does possess, but since I fell beneath its spell, I’ve wandered through the fires of Hell.
My life has not been quite the same, since I chose to play this stupid game.
It rules my mind for hours on end, a fortune it has made me spend.
It has made me curse and made me cry, and I hate myself and hope to die.
It promises me a thing called par, if I hit it straight and far.
To master such a tiny ball should not be hard at all but my desires the ball refuses, and does exactly as it chooses.
It hooks and slices, dribbles, dies, it disappears before my eyes.
Often it will have a whim, to hit a tree or take a swim.
With miles of grass on which to land, it finds a tiny patch of sand then has me offering up my soul, if only it would find the hole.
It makes me whimper like a pup, and swear that I will give it up and take to drink to ease my sorrow, but the ball knows… ........

I’ll be back tomorrow!

Donation ..

Hi David.

Here is a photo of myself handing over the €375 euros raised at El Plantio on 21ST Nov to Saskia, partner of Max Bennett. My wife Sylvia took her shopping to La Zenia where they spent €200 on essentials like underwear/sleepwear/bedding and clothing. €175 is being held and shall be given when the children require further clothing or footwear.
Saskia has asked me to kindly thank all those who donated and took part in the golfing event that day.

Cheers Stuart.

TORREGOLF at El Plantio

Event 143 - Torregolf at El Plantio 28th.December 2018

For our last Event of the year we had a very low turnout of members for the very special price given for our last visit of the year to our home course El Plantio.
The course as usual was very busy with a considerable amount of work going on as well on maintenance which was required particularly to the Tee boxes and because of this Special K decided to play off the blue tees, which in return supplied some high scores. So for the results with just one Category
1st. Stuart Taylor 38 points 2nd.Frank Todd 37 3rd. Vince Lannon 36 and 4th. John Stead 33 from Derek Beckett with 32 points.
Best Front 9. Stuart Taylor 21 points and Best Back 9.Pat Kidney on count back from Frank Todd both with 20 points.
Nearest the Pins.
Hole 4 and Hole 14. Eric Stoneham Hole 18. Rob Ridgeway no one on Hole 9 and 4th.shot NTP Hole 12. Paul Forbes
Our scratch card winner with Walsall was Derek Beckett.
No photograph unfortunately.

Happy New Year Everyone and see you all in 2019.

TORREGOLF at Lo Romero

Event 142 - Torregolf at Lo Romero Friday 14th. December 2018

Today saw just 30 members playing in what can only be described as ‘in severe wind conditions’ and for those that know the area when the wind blows around the Mar Menor area, it blows!, and it makes golf very difficult to play also it is Winter now and in addition it was cold which we are not used to feeling, as you can see from the picture of Kevin Hopkins and Vince Lannon. Also, may I say it was Vince’s birthday this week…..welcome to the 80’s club Vince may you have many more. Kevin you look as if you are in the Arctic!
To start it looked as if the day was going to be not only cold and windy but dull and no Sun. Luckily no rain was forecasted but as the game went on the Sun came out, which was a slight bonus and it has to be said some reasonable scores were achieved, but there were also some very low scores!
The one thing that needs to be noted was on Hole 18, Stroke index 1 Par 4, at 356 meters from tee to flag and the Lo Romero Signature Hole had Tony Robson driving to just before the water a chip onto the green but had to have 2 putts but it still gave him a par and 3 points.
Well done Tony and attached you will see where his drive finished….note the lovely blue sky to finish the round off.
Also you can see Lo Romero’s Christmas Ball and 2 of our Lady members, Pat Gingell and Elly Van Himbergen giving it a hug, close up! Well done girls for getting in the Christmas spirit.
The course was in its usual pristine condition with greens very fast.
So for the results.
Category1.1st.Sverre Sonesen 33 points 2nd.Bryan Andrews on a c/b 3rd. Ken Holmes both with 32 points and 4th. Ole Rong 30 points.

Category 3. 1st. WimRamakers 35 points 2nd.Kevin Hopkins 34 3rd. Alan Perry with another count back from 4th. Frank Todd both with 29 points.
Best Front 9 was Ken Holmes with 18 points and Best Back 9 went to Kevin Hopkins with 20 points
The Full Monte, yes, Stuart Taylor with just 14 points. However, it has to be said there were several other members that thought they would be in the running for a while without mentioning names.
The scratch card today was won by Malcolm Watters, with Plymouth.
Finally on the day nearest the pins.Hole 5. Ole Rong Hole 7.Stuart Massie and Holes 12.and 15. went to Ray Rumble.
Regret no winners photo today everyone anxious to get home warm up with a large brandy and begin the Christmas celebrations because this was our last game before Xmas so may I wish you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS.
One more game before 2019 and its El Plantio the 28th December with a special price for the day, so if you want to clear the ‘Festive Cheer’ away come and join us.

Event 141 - Torregolf at La Finca Thursday 6th.December 2018

Yes, beautiful day for playing, golf course in great condition sun shining and along comes flamboyant Dennis Clarke (picture left) ready to tee off on the 1st. to spoil it all, no only joking Dennis you looked great, but before that it was a RED day here in Spain and it got to us as we were told that our tee times had changed and instead of teeing off at 08.50 we were pushed back up to 10.10, and of course this caused some concern and 3 members decided not to play having to wait 1 hour 20 minutes plus! Understandable.
However, 31 did get to play in the end and am sure some also wished they hadn’t because I cannot ever remember in 15 years of running TORREGOLF where the scores were so low. We generally talk of how many scored 30+ points but today it was how many could make 30 and there wasn’t that many in fact just 10! Sure it was because of the delay and then slow play by those playing in front of us.
After the golf it was perhaps great that all could drown their sorrows in subsidised drink at The Chandalier, the show bar, on La Finca where we go following games at La Finca both Matt and Gareth looked after us very well with some good old hot Sausages in Rolls etc. which went down very well. A great place to go after a game of golf or even to visit anytime!

So for the results of our normal Stableford Competition.
Category 1.1st.Spencer Andrews with 39 points 2nd. John Moore 35. 3rd. on a count back from SverreSonesen was Ray Rumble both with 30 points
Category 2.1st. Ken Holmes 36 points 2nd. Mike Jenkins 31 with another count back from 3rd. Stephen Rollings both with 31 points and 4th. Terry Sharley with 29 points.
Category 3. 1st. Alan Perry for the 2nd week on the trot with 35 points and then once again on count backs all with 29 points 2nd. Mick Madra 3rd. Gary Carr-Smith and 4th. Frank Todd
Best front 9 went to Ken Holmes with 20 points and
Best Back 9 to John Stead having scored just 6 on the front 9, scored on a count back from Spencer Andrews 20 points.
Nearest the pins Hole 3.Ken Holmes Hole 6. Keith Wheatcroft Hole 13. Ole Rong and Hole 16. Derek Beckett.
Best new carder was Bo Axberg with 32 points winning a prized TORREGOLF Mug.
Our Scratch Card winner today with West Bromwich was John Stead and finally the treasured Full Monte went to Stuart Taylor with 15 points.
No winners photograph today ....

TORREGOLF at Font del Llop

Event 140 - Torregolf at Font del Llop Thursday 29th.November 2018

Yes what a glorious day for returning to our favourite course following the disaster of the 29th.October when severe weather wrecked the day. The Gods must have known because the whole day in every respect was just perfect for playing golf on a course in just great condition. It’s a shame that all those that lost out on the 29th. could not join us today, but they will receive FREE golf when returning next time.
Regrettably numbers were well down today which resulted in those playing were restricted to 2 Categories also the scores were unusually low, but remember Font del Llop is a tricky course to play.
So, the results
Category 1. 1st. Jukka Aaltoned 36 points 2nd.Derek Sullivan 33 3rd. Stephen Rollings on a c/b 4th. Mike Jenkins both with 32 points also on 32 was Dorian Brooksby

TORREGOLF at El Plantio

Event 139 - Torregolf at El Plantio Wednesday 21st.November 2018

Today, back to our home course where we had not just the weekly golf outing for members but were doing a little charity thing for the Max Bennett appeal, yes, a young man of 24 years old, who lost his life in June this year leaving a partner and 3 young children ages 5, 3 and 18 months and to do this we had for a 5 Euro entry fee for 2 prizes 1 a 50 Euro Voucher from our friends at Fantasy Golf and all one had to do was get their 1st shot onto the green, we, with the help of El Plantio also put up a FREE round of golf with buggy for the same on hole 18.
Stuart Massie a TORREGOLF member and this years Presidents Trophy winner organised it all and he also put up a box of golf balls as an extra prize and below you can see the winners Gordon Roxon and Bo Axberg winners of the golf ball’s Stuart in the middle and WimVieleers winner of the Free round of golf and Bob Adair winner of the Fantasy Golf voucher. So thanks to all those who contributed to the cause. In total we raised the sum of 355 Euros but it should be mentioned the 50 Euros that Terry Sharley put in the pot, thank you Terry.
Now for the golf which produced some poor scores today but then this course is not the easiest and after the excessive rain of the past couple of days conditions were not good. Numbers were also down as well with 3 pulling out at the last minute and 4 no shows which frankly is unacceptable when they had reminders of the Event however they will each suffer he cost of a 50% green fee fine.
That out of the way the results for our normal weekly Stabelford.
Category 1.1st.Terry Sharley 35 points 2nd.WimVieleers 33 on c/b 3rd. Mike Jenkins and 4th. Bob Adair 30 points.

Category 3.1st. Alan Perry 32 points 2nd.Kevin Hopkins 31 3rd. Frank Todd 30 and 4th.WimRamakers with 28 points.
Best Front 9. Terry Sharley 18 points
Best Back 9. WimVieleers 19 points
Nearest the Pins.Hole 7. Con Moore Hole 9. Gordon Roxon Hole 14. Kevin Hopkins Hole 18. Doug White

TORREGOLF at Altorreal

Event 138 - Torregolf At Altorreal Monday 12th.November - 2018

Funny old day today conditions ok but it was dull and dismal all day course not its usual pristine condition with greens slow and the rough to the side of fairways rougher than usual, maybe it was because no cut had gone on recently, anyhow it effected some of the scores today like we saw in Category 1 only 3 members making 30+ points, very unusual!
32 members in total played and regretfully this is the number we can only accept for Altorreal in the future due to time factor overall and they are unable to accommodate shot gun or tee 1 & 10 starts. Shame because we can fill this venue anytime with 40+ members a very popular course for our members… if you want to play with us in the future get your names down early, all Events for 2019 are on the web site.
So today’s results starting with our Full Monte and going to Per Borg with 20 points.
Nearest the pins: Holes 5& 17. Roger Twigg Hole 8. Derek Sullivan Hole 10. Doug White
Best Front 9. Frank Todd 21 points and Best Back 9. Mike Jenkins 19 points.
Overall results:
Category 3.1st. Norman Dobson 35 points 2nd.Elly Van Himbergen on a c/b 3rd. Frank Todd both with 32 points 4th.John Stead on a c/b from Alan Perry and Twiggy all with 29 points.
Category 2.1st. Mike Jenkins on c/b from MkeMadra both with 34 points 3rd. Brian Booton 32 and 4th.Vince Lannon 31 points.

Lastly our Scratch card and with Blackpool Doug White
Our photograph of today’s winner’s shows that winter has not come to some members!

TORREGOLF at Vistabella

Event 137 - Torregolf At Vistabella Monday 5th.November - 2018

Today there were no fireworks just damp squibs as it was cold….. overcast, damp, rain, damp, overcast in that order and still cold., with the temperature not getting over 15c.
However, most managed to get round with just 3 not returning cards, also with so many playing it was a long day before everyone could get back to The Orange Bar for some warm food provided free with subsidised drinks by John and his staff. Thank you once again John Mitchell.
Now for the results starting with The Full Monte and supporting our local football team CD Montesinos who regrettably find themselves in the bottom 4 at the moment, so with just 18 points today …..Rob Ridgeway was the winner.
Nearest the Pins: Hole 2. SverreSonesen Hole 7. Phil Harris Hole. 11 Sverre AGAIN! and Hole 15. Mike Zebadee
Best Front 9. SverreSonesen 21 points Best Back 9. Derek Sullivan also with 21 points.
And the winners overall
Category 1. 1st. clearing up on the day with 39 points SverreSonesen 2nd. Derek Sullivan 36 3rd. KjellAasebo 34 and 4th.Ken Holmes on a c/b from Peter List 32 points
Category 2.1st. Colin McCoy 36 points 2nd.Brian Booton 34 3rd. Stuart Massie on a c/b from 4th.Mike Zebadee both with 33 points.
Category 3.1st. Roger Twigg on countback from 2nd.Len Cole and 3rd. Norman Dobson all with 34 points and 4th. Roger Hazeldine 33 points
As you will see it couldn’t have been that bad out there as all the winners scored more than 30 points in fact out of the 38 playing 24 scored more than 30 points. So well done all in difficult playing conditions that we are not used to seeing or playing in.
2 scratch cards today with the winners Roger Hazeldine with Blackburn and Terry Sharley with West Brom.
Our picture of the winners outside The Orange Bar and some in SHORTS, Bbrrrrr!!!!

TORREGOLF at Font del Llop

Event 136 - Torregolf At Font del Llop Monday 29th.October - 2018

Today TORREGOLF were at Font del Llop with a few problems.
Yes, this was to be a shot gun start for 44 members however due to circumstances beyond our control this had to be cancelled due to a Federated Tournament taking place earlier than our tee time.
However, due to severe wind the Tournament came to an early end and as our dear friends at Font del Llop knew what was intended for us, they decided to have us go back to a shot gun start at the last minute. While that was a great idea we had already worked on members being there 30 minutes before their tee time which of course caused problems for Kevin Hopkins acting on behalf of myself as the last tee time was 11.10 following a 09.30 start. Having then got members away it was obvious that we were also in trouble with the conditions, with members coming back after just a 3 holes others after also doing many more, so it was decided we would call a halt to the competition.
Some did go on to complete all but in total we will now have all those attempting to play etc., receive a free round the next time we play there including those that did finish.
This is in the process of being completed and I will advise when it will take place.
I do however accept that some members that are not domiciled here will not be able to attend, not a problem, we will accommodate as and when. So you will not lose out. The promises of TORREGOLF and FONT del LLOP.
Watch this space and our website.
A golf Club for the people by the people.
My thanks to Kevin Hopkins once again, who kept me in the picture from beginning to the end.

TORREGOLF at Vistabella

Event 135 - Torregolf At Vistabella Friday 26th.October - 2018

So, where do we start, yes with a little light banter. There are some amongst us that will remember a song performed by The Four Seasons way back in 1963 called “Oh what a night” well today can only be described as ‘oh what a day’. Not only has all the football in the Valencian region been cancelled for the week end due to the expectation of extremely bad weather being forecasted but it appeared to kick off early at Vistabella and it was not Friday the 13th. As our members are aware with our ever increasing number of members it was decided that with the help of most golf courses we would make arrangements to go for shot gun starts where possible and most including Vistabella have been very helpful in accommodating us and over a period of time we had 69 wanting to play, and of course this causes problems on keeping up with acceptable tee times etc. We accept that with large numbers we are in the hands of the Courses to accommodate us and with numerous tee times etc., being changed over a period of time. However, we finally had a tee time of 08.35 not a good time but has to be accepted. This was again confirmed in writing days prior to us attending where we also informed all including the restaurant area of our numbers which on the day finished at 48. With this number and the agreed number of holes we would be playing we requested our members to be at the course 45 minutes before the allotted tee time of 08.35, which they did, some even earlier.
With all these arrangements in place we arrived in darkness to be faced with nowhere to get a drink or even sit to deal with paperwork (everywhere was wet from overnight rain) and because of supposedly poor light a group in front of us were late starting, that was acceptable to us. You have to be aware of dark mornings now and Tee times of 08.00 to start are not good and should not be given. Some of our Members came from far and wide so not good and was topped off by us being told the earliest we could play would be 08.50 as our allotted tee times were incorrect. As you can imagine all this caused some stress! from all parties and members.
Let’s leave it at that and was for our members to be aware of and in the end with some changes again, on allocated holes we finally got to play golf, which overall showed some great score and all those in the prize money all scored 30+ points. My thanks go to Kevin Hopkins for his handling of the situation this cannot be good for your game but under other circumstances his 33 points would have, I am sure, have caused a cut in his handicap.
So, the results starting with The Full Monte which today went to the Welsh and Bob Ridgeway with 19 points.
Nearest the pins, however once again another lost one, 2nd week on the trot, Hole 15.
Hole 2. Derek Beckett Hole 7.Quinton Pegdon and Hole 11. Ken Holmes.
Best Front 9. Alan Gifford 24 points
Best Back 9. Derek Sullivan 23 points
Our best new carder/guest winning one of our new presentation box’s of TORREGOLF. EU pitch repairer and markers Tove Stenboeg.

Category 3.1st. Brian Booton 37 points 2nd.Steve Boxer 36 on a c/b from 3rd. Henry Dryden and 4th.Kevin Hopkins 33 points.
Following the game and as we do at all games played at Vistabella we returned to the Orange Bar where John Mitchell and his staff provided us all with cheap drinks and great food. Once again thanks John and todays photograph taken outside the bar shows all the winners. All in all, a great finish to the day.
Thanks to Dave Altoft for once again winning best winners photograph of the day.

TORREGOLF at Font del Llop

Event 134 - Torregolf At Font del Llop Friday 12th.October - 2018

Why is it that some courses have it and some don’t well Font del Lllop certainly does and today other than a slight delay on Hole 1 our shot gun start went very well and as usual the course was in great condition though strangely some of the greens were fast and some were slow and it was a pleasure for me to sit out on the terrace and watch what went on around the panoramic view of the course, thinking how nice it would be to play.
Once again some very good scores recorded with 60 per cent of those playing managing to score more than 30 points so well done all on a course that is not easiest around to negotiate.
And the results, starting with the Full Monte in support of our football team CD Montesinos, who it has to be said are going through a rough patch at the moment losing their last 3 games and the winner today with 22 points was a new member, ToveStenboeg, sure she will do better next week at Vistabella.

TORREGOLF at Altorreal

Event 133 - Torregolf At Altorreal Thursday 4th. October - 2018

We had 44 Members playing today and did they enjoy it, yes, with out a shadow of a doubt and all made comments on how much this course has improved over the last couple years which I have to agree with and hoped we would be able to sort out how we may come in 2019. I can now tell you this is now sorted and we will be here 5 times next year unfortunately we will not be able to do shot gun starts which elsewhere is the way forward and as such we will have to limit the numbers playing to 32. The dates for us playing are now on our website , so get your names down now because some are going to be unlucky not to play this course when we go next year and as you know it is one of our favourites.
So back to the game etc. Course as I said and yes I did manage to play 9 holes which shouldn’t have happened! Was great, greens perfect though a little slow and some big scores came out as well with young Jim Imrie playing off 4 with the Slope recording 40 points and he still didn’t win. New HCP Jim, 3.1
Winners seen in the photograph attached, courtesy of Dave Marshall, on the terrace at Altorreal were ...
Category 1.1st. Dave Marshall 41 points 2nd. On count back from Con Moore was Jim Imrie both with 40 points and 4th. Kjell (Charlie to us) Aasebo 37 points ... infact the 13 members playing this Category all recorded 30+ points

Next week big turn out for Font del Llop with just a couple of slots left so come and play with a shot gun start at 09.00.
Get your name down.

TORREGOLF at Font delLlop

Event 132 - Torregolf At Font delLlop Wednesday 26th.September - 2018

It is always a pleasure for me to come and bring TORREGOLF to Font del Llop even when I am unable to play and today was no different. Course was in great condition and even though we were down in numbers we still had 50% of our members breaking 30 points. Such a great course that provides everything that a golfer wants while playing , you never know what’s round the corner to contend with when here. Be it the slopes, bunkers, ravines, wind and water of course. Anyway the results of our normal Stablefordcompetition was as follows in just 2 categories today.
Category 1.1st. John Mitchell 40 points 2nd.Ray Rumble 38 3rd. Con Moore 34 and 4th. Matt Shirkie 31
Category 2.1st. Alan Moody 42 points 2nd.Elly Van Himbergen 36 3rd. Malcolm Watters 35 and 4th. Kevin Hopkins 34 points

TORREGOLF at Lo Romero

Event 130 - Torregolf At Lo Romero Monday 10th.September - 2018

Due to a comparative last minute change of venue resulting in a very late start only 29 members were able to take in the delights of Lo Romero and for once scores were way below those that have been posted over the last few weeks with only 11 members cracking that barrier of 30 points we always talk about.
So for the results starting with The Full Monte which was won on a count back from Tom Curran…Pat Gingell both with 23 points.
Even with the low number we still managed to have the prize money go round in 3 Categories.

TORREGOLF at Vistabella

Event 129 - Torregolf At Vistabella Monday 3rd.September - 2018

40 Members arrived at Vistabella to day for what is now to become a fairly regular occurrence with us, yes, a shot gun start and once again it went very well with all completed in under 5 hours. Course conditions ok some greens still showing signs of the recent course HT. However there is still the problem of no buggies on the fairways for the new holes even though I had been informed we could do a 90 degree turn. That out of the way we did have some big scores with only 10 members failing to make 30 points.
So for the results starting with the winner of the new members cards and with 39 points playing his 3rd card GeirSorby well done Gear you now go into the regulars section with a new handicap and today a TORREGOLF mug as your prize.

However, the prize giving was to day at,Chandalier The Show Bar just down the road at the entrance to La Finca where Matt put on some free Tapas and drinks less a 10% discount. This will become a regular watering hole after our games at both Vistabella & La Finca and it’s a shame that 9 members did not attend and as such 3 relinquished their prize money because if you don’t attend the prize money is returned to Club funds as was the case today. I would also like to say that if you go to the Candalier for a drink and maybe the entertainment you will on production of a current membership card receive a 10% discount on all drinks.
Thank you Matt for looking after us.
Finally our scratch card with Blackpool, Matt Sharkie but he had to pull out due to transport problems so we pin pricked for the winner which was Derek Williams with Man U and 20 Euros.
Our picture on the terrace outside CandalierThe Show Bar shows some of the winners.

TORREGOLF at Bonalba

Event 127 - Torregolf at Bonalba Tuesday 14th.August - 2018

On a day when most were hiding out of the heat just 21 members took to the course Bonalba and it has to be said they all wished they hadn’t, because while it was very hot the course was in a terrible condition, with various excuses being given. While I was there for the presentation I was unable to make a comment but except if one said it was bad ok,……… but with all those playing saying the same then the matter needs to be taken further, and rest assured it will. The 17th.was basically unplayable.
However that out of the way let’s look at the results which it has to be said does not reflect on the scores returned and this course is not the easiest around!
So the winners in just 2 Categories today

TORREGOLF at Lo Romero

Event 126 - Torregolf at Lo Romero, Saturday 4th. August - 2018

Yes what another great day of golf at Lo Romero and was it a good idea to have a shot gun start even if it did mean an early wake up call because all 36 playing our normal Stableford finished before 13.00 hours and all were able to enjoy a call drink while everyone else on the course were suffering with extreme heat.
Now this was my first game at Lo Romero believe it or not in 10 years of trying to get TORREGOLF on their books to play and while I probably should not be playing I gave it a go and enjoyed what the course had to offer which I have to say was very good. Fairways were like grass used on the greens well maintained to keep up with greens which were very fast. I now see why it is a popular course and 19 members managed to break the 30 points barrier and we had 2 members Peter List and Tony Robson both getting birdies on the infamous 18th.hole, well done Guys!
So the results and prize winners
Category 1.1st. Peter List 39 points 2nd.John Moore on a c/b 3rd. Keith Smith both with 37 points and 4th.KjellAasebo to us Charlie 34 points.
Category 2.1st.Coreen Altoft 43 points 2nd.Coreen’s playing partner Vicky Clarke 37 3rd. David Altoft 35 points on a c/b from 4th. Derek Sullivan
Category 3. 1st. Gordon Roxon 37 points on a c/b from 2nd. Al Warnock 3rd. Elly Van Himbergen 33 points and 4th. Tom Gallego on a c/b from Kevin Robinson both with 29 points
Nearest the pins.Hole 5. Bob Adair Hole 7.CoreenAltoft Hole 12.Gordon Roxon and Hole 15. Brian McClusky
Best Front 9. CoreenAltoft 22 points and also the Best Back 9. With 21 points
Our scratch card with Birmingham Vince Lannon
Which leaves us with the Full Monte and for the 2nd.week running poor old Bojangles with 18 points
Our photo of all the winners today, taken with the back drop of the course….hang on what’s Peter List trying to say, yes……. I tried this ball but couldn’t get it in the hole and I don’t know why!

TORREGOLF at El Plantio

Event 125 - Torregolf at El Plantio Wednesday 25th.July - 2018

It was just as well that today we had probably our lowest turnout of members because even with a very early start the temperatures had soared into the 40’s by the time we finished. Thank goodness that we have now got the majority of our golf courses allowing us to do shot gun starts because it does mean we can get back to just over a 4 hour round. Gone are the days of 5 + hour rounds and being out for 10+ hours on a golf day.
When at El Plantio you can always expect to see maintenance staff working and even in the extreme heat there were probably more than 30 staff around the course working. Course was showing the effect of no rain but in very good condition even though watering was going on every green, which today we found to be very slow it however did produce some very good scores for our usual Stableford competition. As you know El Plantio does favour the ladies with the red boxes being generally away forward to the Yellows and a certain young lady Elly Van Himbergen produced her very best score ever of 42 points. Well done Elly.
So the results in just 2 Categories today were as follows ...
Category 1.1st. Barrie Hopkinson 38 points 2nd.Paul Cogin 35 and 3rd. Alan Gifford 33 points.
Category 2.1st.Elly Van Himbergen 42 points 2nd. Vernon Anderson 38 and rd. on a countback from Kevin Hopkins was Al Warnock with 34 points
Good to see El Presidente back completing 18 holes for the first time since May (photograph below with Barrie Hopkinson our Membership Secretary and yes didn’t he do well? He won the Full Monte with a massive 19 points…’s just the beginning phase again till that operation!
Best Front 9 went to Vernon Anderson with 22 points and the Best Back 9. Barrie Hopkinson 23 points
Nearest the Pins.Just 3 today. Hole 9 Gordon Roxon Hole 18 Al Warnock and 4th.shot nearest the pin on the Torregolf Hole 12 Barrie Hopkinson.
Attached also are todays winners taking in the shade and colour surrounding the Club House.
One last thing next week we are at Lo Romero for a shot gun start at 08.00 so remember a very, very, early start! For the 40+ members down to play.

TORREGOLF at Bonalba

Event 124 - Torregolf at Bonalba,Tuesday 17th.July - 2018

What can one say about today other than it was very hot and members needed to have not got up so early for what was considered to be a 09.04 start when in fact it was an hour later. Sorry Guys & Girls. However, even with the delayed start it did not appear to cause any problems for the 32 members playing and scoring was good, as you will see from the results below.
Category 1.1st. Tony Felstead 42 points. 2nd. Vicky Clarke 36 followed by her better half?? Dennis, with 35 and 4th.Ray Rumble 32 points.
Category 2.1st. Mike Jenkins on a countback from 2nd. Kevin Robinson both with 34 points 3rd.Bob Adair 33 and 4th. Jim Bryce 29 points.
Category 3. 1st. Vernon Anderson 38 points, must be that new set of clubsVernon, well done!.2nd. John Mitchell 35 3rd. Derek Williams 33 and 4th.Colin McDonald 32 points.
Best Front 9 with 23 points Tony Felstead and Best Back 9 went to John Mitchell with 22 points.
Only 2 nearest the pins claimed Hole 4 Stephen Lowe and Hole 8 Dennis Clarke
Weve talked about the high scores but poor old Graham Smith had a nightmare and won the Full Monte with just 14 points a bad day at the office Graham.
Finally our scratch card for 20 Euros went to John Telling with QPR.
Very sorry David Bailey could not be around to take the winners photographs.

TORREGOLF at Font del Llop

Event 123 - Torregolf at Font del Llop Monday 9th.July - 2018

With conditions excellent for playing golf and one of our lowest turn outs for a while everyone enjoyed the shot gun start we now have for all our Events at Font del Llop and even more getting round in just over 4 hours in what was a very warm day.
As per usual there has to be at least one member who tears the course up as far as scores are concerned and today it was big Kevin Robinson who came in with a magnificent score of 45 points. Well done my friend and welcome to a new handicap!
So for the final results on the day starting with of course The Full Monte and with a magnificent score of 16 Alistair Farquhar however he did get in the prize money by winning the scratch card with Celtic. His second win with this in just a few weeks.
Nearest the pin winners Hole 3. Steve Jalif
Hole 8 back to the Club as forgot to put pin out! Hole 12. Tony Felstead Hole 16.Kevin Robinson and Hole 17. Pete Collins

TORREGOLF at Lo Romero

Event 120 - Torregolf at Lo Romero Friday 29th. June - 2018

An eventful day to day as this was our first visit to Lo Romero and regretfully I could not experience the course for which all members have raved about before and also did today even if it meant a shot gun start at 08.00 for the 34 members down to play.
However some members cancelled and am sure for that reason, but this is now the way forward for Torregolf with the number of members now wanting to play our Events and not having to be out for 8 hours + a day.
Having now said that it did not affect the scores because out of the 34 playing, 24 managed to score 30+ points so well done to everyone. So, the results.
Category 1.1st. Ray Rumble 37 points 2nd. Andy Rawlings 36 3rd on a c/b from Alan Gifford both with 35 points Keith Long.
Category 2.1s. David Green 40 points 2nd.Joe Curran 37 3rd. Derek Sullivan 34 and 4th.Bob Adair with 33 points.
Category 3.1st. Gail Green on c/b 2nd. Alan Perry both with 35 points 3rd. EllyVanHimbergen 31points and 4th. Len Cole 29 points.
Best Front 9. Alan Gifford 23 points and Best Back 9.Derrek Sullivan on c/b from Gail and David Green all with 21 points
Best new member with a massive 48 points Julie Adams.
Nearest the Pins:
Hole 5. &Hole 15. Con Moore Hole 7. David White Hole 12. Phil Harris
The scratch card winner with Chelsea. Keith Smith
Which just leaves us with The Full Monte supporting our Football team CD Montesinos Paul Fox with 20 points.
Issue: 10 members failed to score on the island 18th.
Everyone is now looking to coming again on our next visit which is the 4th. August, so come and experience something different.
Our winners photo courtesy of Kevin Hopkins shows all with the course in the background.

TORREGOLF at El Plantio

Event 121 - TORREGOLF Presidents Day @ El Plantio - Thurs 21st.Jun 2018

Yes today was the annual Presidents Day outing to our home course and it went off with a BANG.
Yes a shot gun start at 09.00 hrs so it meant an early start for all but it was worth it as the course was in perfect condition and probably the best it has been for a very long time. Greens were perfect but unusually slow. Even better was the special price for the day as well and yes we had blue, blue skies and no wind everything was just great with even the President taking part for the first time in 3 weeks but regretfully his leg wouldn’t let him complete the whole 18 holes having to pull out after 15 holes and at that period of time had 26 points on his card.
Originally we had 75 members down for this Event but on the day 56 managed to tee off on time and at the end of the day only 19 failed to get 30 points +. So it was a very tight game in 3 Categories with not one winner getting less than that magic number.
So for the results, yes, they are being held back till after Monday the 25th. June as they are being given out at a special Gala Dinner/Dance at Pacos in Rojales. So this being the 22nd.are the results ...
The Full Monte and with just 24 points on a count back from Dorian Brooksby was Alan Perry.
Category 1. 1st. not wearing his Payne Stewart trousers for a change, yes Dennis Clarke with 40 points 2nd. Ray Rumble 39 points.3rd. Stephen Brown 38 and 4th. Alan Gifford 37 points on a count back from Keith Smith.
Category 2. 1st. Barrie Hopkinson on a count back from 2nd. Bob Adair both with 35 points 3rd. David Green 33 and 4th. Colin McCoy with 32 points.
Category 3. 1st. 1st. Stuart Massie 45 points 2nd. Kevin Hopkins 39 points 3rd. Frank Todd 38 and 4th. Gordon Roxon 35 points.

From this you will now see that the Presidents Trophy for 2018 goes to STUART MASSIE with 45 points and that included a blob on Hole 1. So well done Stuart - you will now suffer a rather large cut which will bring you down to earth.
Best Guest/Carder was Robyn Goodwin with 44 points.
Best Front 9. Frank Todd on a count back from Kevin Hopkins both with 23 points.
Best Back 9. Stuart Massie with 23 points.
Nearest the Pins and a problem because on Holes 9 and 14 the name was ‘Daisy’ who ever she was so in view of the fact that we did not have a Daisy playing or a member of the same name so obviously a Daisy playing decided to put her name down on the marker so the NTP will go to Peter Bone for Hole 9 and Alan Gifford on Hole 14.
Now the Torregolf Par 5. Hole 12 for which there is a Trophy for the 4th shot nearest the pin was a steal for Jim Imrie who putted out for a birdie. Well done young Jim. But insisted on putting Tom Currans name on the marker. Thanks Tom for telling us.
The scratch card was won by Robert Lewis with Chelsea a good one Robert playing with us for the 1st.Time

All the winners will be shown on a separate Blog taken at Pacos restaurant. However some will not be there as they didn’t attend the venue.

TORREGOLF at Bonalba

Event 120 - Torregolf at Bonalba Wednesday 13th.June - 2018

Might be the 13th.but not a Friday so there should be no excuses today for bad scores and that was the case when a slightly down number of members produced some good ones with the lowest score with The Full Monte going to Stephen Rollins with 20 points. However, the course was generally in great condition following HT but fairways were in need of some cutting which was actually going on while play was taking place and the greens were a little slow and wooly. Weather wise was perfect for golf and it was great to see, even though the course was very busy everyone getting round in good time. I watched all coming down the 17th. and, there were no gaps at all. So well done all.
Before the results nothing of any real importance but……on his wedding anniversary an Eagle was recorded by Mike Jenkins on the Hole 6 Par 4. 304 mtrs. So well done Mike on both counts.
So, the results ...
Category 1.1st.Bob Adair 39 points 2nd.Con Moore 38 3rd. Ray Rumble 36 and 4th.Tom Curran 34 points.
Category with 3 first’s and a 2nd place in the last 4 weeks Norman Dobson 35 points 2nd. Chris Butland 31 3rd. Joe Curran and with 5 blobs 30 points and finally 4th.Derrick William on a count back from Len Cole 28 points.
Best Front 9. Con Moore on a count back from Ray Rumble both with 21 points.
Best Back 9. Bob Adair 21 points.
Nearest the Pins Hole 4. Chris Butland Hole 8. Ray Rumble Hole 11. No one! And Hole 14 Joe Curran.
Finally our scratch card with Coventry and he wasn’t sent there .. Len Cole.

showing the sunshine and the clear blue sea way in the back ground.

Event 119 - Torregolf at La Finca Tuesday 5th.June - 2018

Yes today we ventured very local and with 41 members playing we started the day with a number off Tee 1 and the rest off tee 10. However there was a small problem at the start with the wrong numbers on the wrong Tees, but with our usual efficiency, even if it did mean some hair being pulled out, we did manage to get all off on time, for a round that took just over 4 hours. The course was just back from hollow tinning but did it take its toll, answer NO, even with temporary greens on Holes 11 & 14 where the bunkers around the greens were undertaking a total refurbishment so it has to be said the course was in great condition with conditions for playing golf just perfect hence this was reflected in the final scoring scenario, where 24 member recorded more than 30 points and 4 breaking into the 40 barrier which has not been achieved for some while.
So without further ado the scores on the doors as it were for the winners today ...
Category 1. 1st. Ken Holmes 42 points yes CaptainB.,weve got you at last! 2nd. Tony Felstead 40 3rd. Lindsay Dunlop 37 and 4th.on a count back from Geoff Plumer, Con Moore both with 35 points
Category 2.1st. Bob Adair 39 points 2nd.Andrew Barwood 38 3rd. Stuart Massie 35 4.Stephen Rollngs 34 points.
Category 3.Roger Twigg 43 points 2nd. Norman Dobson 40 ( reversal of last weeks results) 3rd.Gordon Roxon 39 and 4th. Mick Madra 33 points on a countback from Kevin Hopkins and Elly van Himbergan.

The Full Monte today with 22 points Kevin Robinson.
Nearest the pins.

Hole 6. Andrew Barwood
Hole 13. Ken Holmes
Hole 16. TontFelstead
Our scratch card winner with Chelsea Darren Holden

Our pictures, 2 today, taken on the 1st. fairway because Ken Holmes affectionately known as Captain Birdseye to me managed to not make the group photo due to buying everyone a drink in the bar from his winnings??????
So just sitting down and recovering from this after a hard day at the office. Great day had by all.

TORREGOLF at Altorreal

Event 118 - Torregolf at Altorreal Tuesday 29th. May - 2018

Yes have to say Altorreal never fails us when we play there and today was no exception with course being in great condition. Greens were a little slow but the cutting of them had not been right to the ground even though they had all been cut so that was probably the reason. Once again there were a number of last minute cancellations which is not good when we set ourselves up for a large number to play and today in perfect playing conditions only 25 made the game. Scores were average and only 10 made that 30 points scenario we talk about weekly.
So the results etc.
Scratch Card was a carry over to La Finca next week which still has some vacancies to play.
The Full Monte today going to Derrick Cooper with 18 points.
Nearest the pins Hole 5 Jim Bryce. Hole 8 Mike Jenkins Hole 10 Tony Robson and Hole 17 Norman Dobson
Just 2 Categories for the prize money.

TORREGOLF at Font del Llop

Event 117 - Torregolf at Font del Llop, Tuesday 22nd.May, 2018

Yes our first visit to Font del Llop after the trauma of the Brian Coombes accident last month but this course and it’s wonderful staff in its brilliance can cope with anything and today for our shot gun start after the mass exodus of members, yes 28 over the month, 16 in the last 5 days, still carried on even if the Torregolf members in charge were tearing their hair because it is believed due to the shot gun start for this Event.. Sorry but this is the way forward for us with the amount of members now wishing to play our Events and next year this sort of start will occur at most of our games.
Put it this way do you want to be at the course for hours either before or after a game and today 32 members proved it correct because the 09.30 start saw the first to complete 18 holes back in the Club house, yes, at 13.40 hours when was the last time that occurred I ask myself.
Today was a Stableford Competition and the scoring as far as points were concerned turned out with over 50% of those playing securing 30+ points on their cards and on this course that is good.
The course as usual was in great condition and the service provided by the staff once again was 100%. It’s always a pleasure to come to Font del Llop and already we have booked to come here 9 times next year.
So for the results:
Nearest the pins and yes as everyone knows there are 5 Par 3’s here and 2 members decided that just 1 NTP was not enough Yes Peter List on Holes 3 & 8 and CorrenaAltoft on 12 & 16 just leaving Keith Smith to pick up Hole 17.
Our best of the new members cards went to Mike Serrage with 38 points
Best Front 9. John Grint with 22 points and Best Back 9 also with 22 points on a c/b from KjellAasebo who only a few hours earlier flew in from Norway, was Frank Todd.
The Full Monte which is always a laugh and today went to Tony Mackman with 20 points.
Which leaves us with the winners in 3 Categories
Category 1.1st. CorrenaAltoft with 38 points 2nd. Keith Smith 37 3rd. Con Moore with 33 points
Category 2.1st. John Grint 37 points 2nd.on a count back, Ken Holmes 32 from 3rd. Barrie Hopkinson
Category 3.1st. Norman Dobson on a c/b from 2nd.Kevin Hopkins both with 39 points and 3rd. Pete Jenner 34 points.

It is also reported that prior to the start and in front of all those playing David Winder presented Vanesa Garcia, Director of Golf with a bouquet of flowers as a thank you for all her efforts during the Brian Coombes scenario. See below ...

TORREGOLF at El Plantio

Event 116 - Torregolf at El Plantio, Tuesday 15th.May, 2018

Today in just the correct temperature and great conditions for playing golf at our home course saw 30 members checking it all out prior to Presidents day on the 21st. June and with the course improving every day in the way it looks and plays it will be one very special day!
Scores were not that great with barely 5 beating that barrier we talk about every week. Not sure why but as they say “bad day at the office” so for the results.

TORREGOLF at Vistabella

Event 115 - Torregolf at Vistabella Friday 5th.May

Sorry a little late with the details of today due to circumstances beyond my control and fact that David Bailey failed to turn up and take the winners photograph. Anyhow without further ado…… and thanks to Ken Holmes and Mike Jenkins for looking after all….. 35 members took to the fairways at Vistabella with near perfect playing conditions and it appears that over 50% of those playing managed to break the 30+ points barrier and once again it appears that the new stroke index 1 proved not to be that difficult.
So for the results ...
Category 1.1st. Mick Gossage 33 points 2nd.Derek Sullivan on a count back from Keith Smith both with 32 points and 4th.Malcolm Campbell 31 points.

TORREGOLF at Font del Llop

Event 114 - Torregolf at Font del Llop Friday 27th April

32 members had an early start today, why, we were playing for the first time a Texas Scramble with a shot gun start at 09.00.
The course has to be said was in brilliant condition and weather was perfect, we had 8 four balls but regretfully only 7 managed to finish due unfortunately to an accident to Brian Coombes which required him to be airlifted to hospital. As most know by now Brian is both safe and well and is recovering and we wish him all the best and hope to see him again in the very near future.
After the game it was generally agreed we should do this format more often. Yes it is fun!
As for the results well to start with there were no NTP’s No best 9 or front 9 or Full Monte and the scratch card was carried forward to next week at Vistabella. So all the prize money was shared amongst the first 3 teams which resulted in the winner being the team captained by Jim Imrie, who had with him Mick Gossage, Alastair Farquhar and Bill Fantom who came in with a net score of 59.1 Second place went to the team captained by Ray Rumble and his crew consisted of Con Moore, Allard Hudson and Steve Boxer who somehow managed to miss the photograph of the winners with a score of 59.7 and third was the team captained by Derek Sullivan who had with him Graeme Jolly, Gordon Roxon and Len Cole with a total score of 63.5.
All the winners photos taken on the wonderful terrace at Font del Llop with the back drop of course. Must say it looks as if we played in some inclement weather, no, in full sunshine it just wasthe end of the day finished in thunder storms hence the dull photos. Maybe that’s why Steve was not to be found?

TORREGOLF at El Plantio

Event 113 - Torregolf at El Plantio Thursday 19th.April

What a lovely day to play golf at our home course and today we had probably our largest amount of members ever playing yes, 49 and the course have to say was in pretty good condition but greens were in need of a cut being a little wooly. However none of this took its toll on the members and with over 200 Euros of prize money etc. at stake it was all to play for though there were some low scores with 4 members fighting it out for The Full Monte but in the end it went to Derek Cooper playing off 20 and scoring just 13 points. What can one say……….Just a bad day at the office.

Now for the rest of the results.

So if you havnt booked for the big day get your name on the list now. The results for that day will be held over till the following Monday the 25th. June where we will be eating and partying at Pacos in Rojales and for this one contact Kevin Hopkins at for a great night.

Finally our winners photo on the Terrace at El Plantio, well some of them!

TORREGOLF at Altorreal

Event 112 - Torregolf at Altorreal - Wednesday 11th.April

Yes back to one of our favourite courses Altorreal however today it was not good. This is high season for playing golf and also attracts premium rates so you don’t expect to find a course where maintenance is taking place around the greens and all the lead ups to the greens are covered in sand and to the sides look as if they have been dug up with lumps of grass/soil/mud, laying about. Where we told, did they cordon off, ground under repair, reduce the price answer = NO. However this will be addressed!
The legitimate moan out the way lets now concentrate on the game which did predict some very low scores for our Satbleford competition with only 9 members out of the 31 playing reaching that 30+ barrier and there was certainly no one today getting there handicap cut! If only the situation had been like the greens, which I would add were fantastic then I have no doubt scores would have been very high.
So for the results starting with of course with The Full Monte and today went to Jan Anderson with 18 points. Well done Jan but let me assure you there were many others very near including Brian Coombes who last week came in with 40 points.
Best new carder to day was Dave King with 31 points.
Nearest the pins.
Hole 5. StepheRollings Hole 8. Joe Curran Hole 10. Len Cole and Hole 17. John Gregory
Best Front 9 Ken Holmes 18 points on c/b from Elly Van Himbergden and Best back 9 again on a count back from John Moore.Roy Tennant with 19 points.
And, of course now the Category winners
Category 1.1st. John Moore 35 points 2nd.Ken Holmes 31 3rd. Terry Sharley 30 and 4th.with 29 points Ray Rumble
Category 2. 1st. John Grint 35 points 2nd. Roy Tennant 30 3rd. Mike Madra 28 and 4th on a c/b from John Gregory and Stephen Rollings yes Joe Curran with 26 points
Category 3. 1st. Len Cole 33 points yes those new Calloway clubs your Son bought you for your 70th. certainly helped you today Len, well done.2nd. Alan Perry 31 3rd. Elly Van Himbergen 4th.Norman Dobson 28 points.
Our scratch card today with Cardiff went to Derek Beckett
The photograph of some of the winners on the terrace at Altorreal look as if they had a hard/cold day.
Never mind it’s El Plantio next week with a later start so should be a little warmer.

TORREGOLF at Vistabella

Event 111 - TORREGOLF Vistabella - Tuesday 3rd.April

I think summer is here and today was probably the as it was exceptionally good with no wind, course beginning to show the grass that goes brown in winter now showing some green and of course brilliant sunshine and a temperature in excess of 25 cent. Fabulous.
However it should be said that the recent rain had a slight impact on the condition of the new holes with mud slides but good to see staff out rectifying the situation.
With conditions great and of course those greens to contend with, it was good to see 18 members out of 33 playing, breaking that 30+ barrier.
Everyone should try the course when here but have to say direct price for members going direct with their membership card in high season leaves something to be desired and Management have been told. So be warned.
However, the results for our normal weekly competition starting with The Full Monte supporting our football club today went to a winner last week with 36 points Gary Carr-Smith and today 22.
Nearest the Pins : Holes 2 and 11 Jim Imrie Hole 7 Paul Cogin and Hole 15 Gordon Roxon
Best Front 9. Paul Cogin 22 on c/b from Vic Smith
Best Back 9. Again on a count back with 20 points Len Cole from Brian Coombes.
Our scratch card was a roll over this week to Altorreal next week where there are a few places still available so if you want to play one of our favourite courses book on line now.
Category winners today starting with Category 3 for a change and with 38 points and David Winder 2nd. Michael Madra 34 points 3rd. Peter Boon 33 and 4th. Len Cole 32 on countback from Gordon Roxon who today just couldnt sink a putt!
Category 2. 1st. Brian Coombes 40 points the 2nd.time in 3 weeks with 40+ and after a cut BUT now another! 2nd. Paul Cogin 38 3rd. Terry Sharley 31 4th. John Gregory 28 points.
Category 1. 1st. Jim Imrie 37 points and now playing off 4.6 2nd. Sverre Soneson who said at the begining of the day that he could not play off his HCP of 13 ….I rest my case …..36 points. Don’t moan again Sverre! 3rd. Ken Holmes on a c/b 4th. Vic Smith both with 33 points
Our best initial carder today was John Mitchell with 32 points welcome John see what you can do next week.
The photo of the winners today taken by Mike Jenkins shows all outside the club house on the green, green, grass of Vistabella note the clear blue sky at 15.00 hours. PERFECTO ...

TORREGOLF at Font del Llop

Event 110 - TORREGOLF at Font del Llop Monday 26th.March

After the gale force winds at the week end, 43 members braved what can be a very windy course, yes, the beautiful Font del Llop and with also that 1 hour difference it was not looking good. But we had words with the Caddy Masters office and they fixed it for us to have sun and a great day’s golf, even though it was obvious the gales had struck there with considerable damage to the Club House.
However to the golf, course in great condition though some of the greens were very difficult to judge with many having 3 putts on the green. So with 4 Categories today starting with those new carder members was 1st. Derek Sullivan 39 points 2nd. on countback Wim Ramakers with 34.
Category 3.1st. Gary Carr-Smith 36 points 2nd.Gordon Roxon 34 3rd. Andrew Barwood 33 and 4th. Alan Perry 32 on c/b from Mike Madra
Category 2.1st. Barrie Hopkinson 37 points 2nd. Ken Holmes 35 3rd. Phil Harris 34 and 4th. With 30 points Terry Sharley.
Category 1. 1st. back to the winners rostrum Ray Rumble 34 points on c/b 2nd. Peter List 3rd.Darren Holden 32 and 4th.Ole Rong 32 points again on a c/b from Jim Imrie
Best Front 9. Andrew Barwood 19 Best Back 9.on a count back from Gordon Roxon…..Gary Carr-Smith 25 points
Nearest the pins.Hole 3. Darren Holden Hole 8. Paul Fox Hole 12. Derek Sullivan Hole 16.Gary Carr-Smith and Hole 17. Ole Rong
Of course The Full Monte supporting our football team CD Montesinos who still remain in 3rd. place beating CF Torrevieja 3-1 away in Torrevieja on Sunday and today with 19 points Joe Farrell.
Finally the scratch card won today with Bolton Wanderers yes... David Winder. Today 23 members breached the 30 points barrier and our Photo today on the that lovely outside terrace that Font del Llop has some of today’s winners and either side you can see some of the course in its splendour .

TORREGOLF at Altorreal

Event 109 - Torregolf at Vistabella Friday 16th.March

Yes Vistabella today and good to see some green grass beginning to grow now instead of the bleak brown but of course the greens are still those greens we love or hate depending on how many putts one takes. Weather perfect in every respect with that valley wind coming through later in the day, however, it didnt appear to cause a problem to Brian Coombes who came in with 41 points or El Presidente with 4 blobs but a very nice 36 points. Other than that the scores were very average for Vistabella with only 10 of the 36 playing making that 30 barrier.
However on the lighter side good to see Dennis Clarke back with us today in his finery of the Payne Stewart dynasty and today in Green. Dennis, always a delight to see the flamboyant you. Vicky has a task on her hands to keep the colours going in the future.
So for the results of our normal Stableford competition
And starting with of course the Full Monte which resulted in one of the Category winners of last week Henry Drydengetting this with a massive score of 15. Well done Henry.
Category 1.1st.Correna Altoft 34 points 2nd. Dennis Clarke 33 3rd. keep it in the family, Vicky Clarke and 4th. Alan Gifford.
Category 2. 1st. Bian Coombes 41points sorry Brian the knife is out! 2nd. Captain Birds Eye and our Judge today Ken Holmes 30 points 3rd. Quinton Pegden 27 and 4th. David Altoft 25 points. Ah yes, must tell you this one have you ever seen a golf ball having been hit fairly hard on the green strikes the hole then jumps a foot in the air and falls back in the hole…..if playing with David, ask him to do it again!
Category 3.1st. David Winder 36 points 2nd.Robert Ridgeway 32 3rd. Kevin Hopkins 30 and 4th.BepBrouwer 28 not Andrew Barwood..Sorry Bep with the mistake when cards were checked and missing out on the winners photo ( will make it up to you when next down from Holland).
Our best of the carder category and yes only joining us yesterday, WimRamakers from Belgium with 31 points and receiving that prize Torregolf Mug. Must say it’s good to see our Club becoming more and more a true European one. May it long continue.
Finally our scratch card with Wolverhampton Wanderers Dennis Clarke.
No game next week…….give everyone time to get over Paddys Day and Fathers Day here in Spain so will see currently 44 members taking to the fairways/greens of yes the members favourite Font del Llop.
Our photo of some of the winners taken outside the Vistabella Club House look as if they are in the mist before the large down pore of rain received some 15 minutes later. Blame Ray Rumble he took it.

TORREGOLF at Altorreal

Event 108 - Torregolf at Altorreal Friday 9th.March

Yes I think summer is here…..
after the cold spell on and off over the last few weeks today saw 42 members arriving in Altorreal, Murcia for the normal weekly Stableford and guess what many actually arrived wearing shorts, so that says it all. Weather was perfect with the course in great condition however the greens were very slow which even though scores were high they could have been even higher bearing in mind also that we had most of the time to play off the white tees and yes a few moans from lady members or poor Gail who was very upset having also to play where the Yellows were. We love you realy Gail. Reason, as the weather had turned warmer Altorreal were re seeing the tee boxes. Must say did feel sorry for the ladies but also I also have to feel sorry for those old codgers who also had to play from the Whites.
Having said all that over 50% of those playing managed to secure themselves 30+ points.
It should also be mentioned that we had 6 guests playing who finished up joining TORREGOLF.EU having enjoyed the day and the company. Thanks Guys!
So for the results today in 3 categories plus the 1st. carders which produced a winner in the name of Brian McSkimming who had a fantastic score of 40 points well done Brian but you know what that means?

TORREGOLF at Vistabella

Event 107 - Torregolf at Vistabella Thursday 1st.March

Yes a great day of golf and everyone is now getting used to the new hole’s, though have to say there is something wrong with Hole 6. Stroke index 1…… way!, we had 33 members playing resulting in 1 Birdie, 13 Pars 13 Bogeys and only 1 member failed to score points. Bring back the old STI 1 now Hole 10, because Hole 6 is certainly not the hardest hole on the course. Course as usual in good shape and green grass is becoming to show so Spring cannot be far away and today we were even able to dispense with a sweater even though some wind did get up later in the day.
So now for the all the results starting of course with the Full Monte and our support for CD Montesinos who continue to go beyond the point of no return and after last week ends result of a 5-2 win now move to 4th. in Division 1. , and today it went to the new Lewis Hamilton won’t tell you why……… Gordon Roxon with 18 points.
Best Front 9. John Gregory on a c/b from Geoff Plumer 20 points. After the front 9 Geoff lost the plot with 6 points, hey ho, that’s golf.
Best Back 9. Malcolm Watters also with 20 pointsbut his wheels didn’t fall off.
Three Categories for prize money today and the winners in our normal Stableford competition.
Category 1. 1st. Jim Imrie on a count back from 2nd. Joe Sheehan both with 34 points 3rd. also on a count back WimVieleers from KjellAasebo with 32 points.

Our Scratch card with Q.P.R. James Boyd.
Well done everyone now for another full house next week with 42 playing at Altorreal.
Our photo today shows some of today’s winners on the grass outside the Club House……
it’s not that cold Marion!

TORREGOLF at Font del Llop

Event 106 - Torregolf Font del Llop Wednesday 21st.February,2018.

A second week of low numbers with 24 cancellations. Not sure why when this course is always great to play and very much a favourite with members, maybe it was the weather forecast but no we managed it without rain or wind in fact we even saw some sunshine!, even if it was a little chilly, well it is February.
However, those that did play enjoyed a great day of golf with 50% making that magic 30+ points scenario. Course was in good condition looking very green on the fairways and greens playing fast most of the time and true.
So for the results with some shocks or should I say one, yes El Presidente who having been in the money winning frame over the past few weeks decided it was time to rethink the way he played and it worked getting the Full Monte with 14 points and 9 blobs…..what can one say?
Nearest the pins.
Hole 3 Tony Felstead. Hole 8 Roy Tennant. Hole 12 Barrie Hopkinson. Hole 16 Ken Holmes and Hole 17 Joe Sheehan
Best Front 9. Kevin Hopkins 19 points.
Best Back 9. Joe Sheehan 21 points.
And the Stabelford winners
Catgegory 1.
1st. Joe Sheehan 39 points 2nd.Geoff Plumer 37 3rd. Barrie Hopkinson 35 and 4th.Ken Holmes on a c/b from Tony Felsted with 32 points.
Category 2.
1st. Quinton Pegdon 37 points 2nd.Kevin Hopkins 36 3rd. Vince Lannon 30 and 4th. Alan Moody on another c/b from James Boyd with 32 points
Our scratch card and 20 Euros with Stoke City went to Roy Tennant
The photograph of all the winners with the wonderful backdrop of the course taken on the best Club forecourt you will find anywhere in this part of Spain.

TORREGOLF at Bonalba

Event 105 - Torregolf at Bonalba Wednesaday 14th. February,2018 .

Yes for Valentines day we were off to Bonalba with conditions for playing golf just perfect, however think the day affected a lot of members because we had 28 cancellations in the end which in that number has never happened before. Remember not to play on the 14th. February again!
However, having said that the conditions were great bearing in mind that Bonalba, 2 days earlier, went into High Season the course was undergoing severe maintenance to the fairways and was not in the best of condition for a high season cost and with the added problem of trying to keep the ball rolling slowly on the greens which were lightning fast, it was a difficult days golf but for many it still did not stop some high scores being recorded.
So for the results of our normal Stableford with just 2 Categories of winners.
Category 1.1st. Mike Jenkins 36 points 2nd. Derek Beckett 32 3rd. Hans van Wanrooji 29 and 4th. Ken Holmes 28 points.
Categpry 2.1st. David Winder 36 points 2nd. Kevin Hopkins 35 3rd. Alan Perry on a count back from Brian Coombes both with 34 points.
Only 2 nearest the pins won and they were holes 4 &8 both going to Derek Beckett.
Best front 9. On a count back from Mike Jenkins and both with 19 Points Brian Coombes and the Best back 9 also on a count back this time Alan Perry was David Winder with 20 points.
Our Scratch card was carried over and finally The Full Monte with 20 points Thijs Hoogervorst.
Our photograph to day show the winners on the terrace of the Club House.

Event 104 - TORREGOLF at La Finca Monday 5th Feb 2018.

After our last visit where the winds reached gale force today it was totally the reverse and while it was chilly we did have some sunshine to see 30 members enjoy a great day of golf even though many of the yellow tees where attached to the whites making it a very long day especially with the older members yes we should look again at the question of us ‘old uns’ well those that would play on the Seniors Tour playing the Blue Tee Boxes.
However, while conditions were perfect scores were unusually low with only 7 making 30 points plus. Those Yellows Tees!?
However the results starting with our football scratch card with Manchester United yes the one and only El Presidente and The Full Monte this week a lady member Bianca Vieleers with 20 points.
Nearest the Pins Hole 3 and 16 Mike Jenkins. Hole 6 Kevin Robinson and Hole 13 Brian Andrews
Best new carder Alistair Farquer 30 points.
And the winners of our Stableford competition in 3 categories.
Category 1.1st. Jim Imrie 37 points 2nd. Tony Felstead 33 and 3rd. on a c/b of 3 John Moore 29 points
Category 2.1st. Terry Sharley 32 points 2nd.Ken Holmes on a c/b from 3rd. Joan Curran both with 30 points.
Category 3.1st. Roy Tennant 32 points 2nd. Kevin Hopkins on c/b 3rd. David Winder both with 28 points
Best Front 9 Joe Curran 19 points and Best Back 9 with 21 points Jim Imrie
Our photo today with a slightly different angle taken on the La Finca terrace. “The Winners”

TORREGOLF at Vistabella

Event 103 - Torregolf at Vistabella Friday 26th.January,2018.

Yes back to one of our special courses for the first visit this year and of course for many of our members playing, a chance to see the extra 7 holes now added to the original 11 and what a day to celebrate this Event. 32 members arrived for a normally later start than normal and while it was fairly dry and overcast we were met with winds greater than those we remarked upon at La Finca 2 weeks ago and when I say winds more like gales in fact at times it was difficult to stand up when addressing the ball, wherever it was and this obviously caused some low scores and only 7 making that 30 point barrier we talk of weekly.
However, it has to be said we now have a complete 18 hole course that will test all golfers! and if you havnt played it get yourself down there and experience one of the best courses on the Costa’s. If there is anything that is not quite right it‘s going back on yourself to the next tee in many instances.
As far as the Slope is concerned be it white, yellow, blue or red this course has it spot on with regard to the distances and Slope calculations. Please note other courses, because most of you do not have it correct!
It is very important that we remember what all these Tee boxes are about and why they are there.
Well done Vistabella.

Now for the day and results starting with The Full Monte in support of our football team and Associates CD Montesinos / The Full Monte and today, to regular a player at Vistabella …Scotty, and yes with 12 points, sure it was the wind that caused this as he was looking a little paler at the end!

TORREGOLF at El Plantio

Event 102 - TORREGOLF at El Plantio Friday 19th.January, 2018.

Yes today back to our home course with fantastic weather playing conditions for this time of year however the course was not looking in the best of condition which I was told was due to severe frosts over the past weeks also a lot of the tee boxes were under repair and it was very wet underfoot in places but as usual a lot of gardening had taken place with the vegetation being cut back for the new season and I was assured it will be tip top within 3 weeks.
However, it did not appear to effect the scores with over 50% of the members playing, carding 30 points plus. Now when one scores a massive 42 points you would think “well no one is going to beat that”…….how wrong can you be, yes, El Presidente was beaten by 1 point. What can I say!

Event 101 - TORREGOLF at La Finca Thursday 11th. January 2018.

On a day that started just great and perfect for playing golf turned out to be a nightmare with winds gusting up to 70kmh and that of course had an effect on the scores, with out of the 34 playing only 4 members managing to make more than 30 points. Shorts were not the number 1 priority for today!
So for the results of our normal Stableford competition were ..

TORREGOLF at Bonalba

Event 100 - TORREGOLF at Bonalba 3rd. January, 2018.

Yes the New Year and a new course to play for most members and have to say what a great day it turned out to be with perfect playing conditions and temperatures reaching 25c. Numbers for the day were 24 who travelled up the A7/E15 to just north of Alicante to receive on arrival FREE coffee, a good start, which for some got even better with even the 40 points barrier being broken by 2 members so big cuts taking place for Geoff Ashton and David Altoft.
No other memorable things to add other than and witnessed by 8 members, yes El Presidente teeing off the 18th. which is over water, doing a Dam Buster tee shot with 5 bumps on water and making the fairway and even finishing up with a point!
So the results...... firstly The Full Monte in support of our football team CD Montesinos who go into the new year in 6th. place in their Valencian League to another football man and joining us for the 1st.time Malcolm Watters a Director of Montrose FC up in bonny Scotland. Sure you will do better next time Malcolm but welcome to the Club.
Best Front 9 and also Best back 9. David Altoft with 21 and 20 points lucky on the back 9 because it was on count back from 2 others.
