TORREGOLF.EU at La Peraleja

Event : La Peraleja Wednesday 19th.December

Yes, following the cancellation of our usual pre Christmas/End of year game at El Plantio we were at La Peraleja for what is now know as probably the best day of the year for our golf members, plenty of homemade mince pies (thank you to Gill for these, they were wonderful!) washed down with brandy prior to the start and with loads of prizes on offer it was all up for grabs and what a day it was with perfect conditions and weather that made you believe it was early Summer not early Winter.
It was good to see members starting off with jumpers and jackets which gradually became discarded as time went on with nearly everyone down to tee shirts in temperatures around 25 centigrade in the clear sunshine. Fantastic!.

Our day consisted of 2 games the usual Stableford one and a 2 ball better ball, and all the results were 2 Ball Better Ball 1st. Peter Kerr & Tony Owens 48 points. 2nd. Paul Hurrell & Cristopher Rose 43 on c/b from Sue Owens & El Presidente.

Overall Top Score Simon Owens 39 points. Best Front 9, Steve James 19 points. Best Back 9, Simon Owens 21. Nearest the pins Hole 2 Ken Holmes. Hole 9 Geoff Betts. Hole 7 No One! Hole 12 Vince Lannon. Hole 16 David Winder and 3rd. shot n/t/p Hole 17 Simon Owens down in 3!!

Our “King” for the most nearest the pins for the year went to Alan Darby with 11. Sue Owens was 2nd. with 7 and Geoff Betts, 6. The raffle for the day raised 66 Euros for the Club funds with Tony Mackman winning a large bottle of Brandy 2nd. A box of Srixon Golf Ball to Ken Saviour and 3rd. with a Nicklaus Golf Towell, Eric Garside.

A great day of golf and we now look forward to 2013 where our fixture list is even longer and better than that in 2012., so with that may I wish you all “Prospero ano nuevo”

TORREGOLF.EU at Hacienda del Alamo

Event : Hacienda del Alamo : 28th Nov 2012

Our first visit to this what I can only call ‘a Jewell in the Crown’, yes, what a fantastic course very long in fact one of the longest in Spain but it has everything, so much it would take to long to put into print.
The day was very much a test for us all with some very strong winds slightly wet from the overnight rain but greens that were in fantastic condition and as we play the slope in our competitions it was expected that we would see some high scores, WRONG, and only 5 players managed to make more than 30 points.

Results on the day were Category 1. 1st.Geoff Shand 34 points. 2nd.Geoff Betts 27. 3rd. Colin Holmes 25. Category 2. 1st. Alan Darby 38 points. 2nd. Andrew Barwood 30 and 3rd. Peter Kerr 27. Category 3. 1st. David Winder 37 points. 2nd. Bernard Ball 31 3rd. Henry Dryden 24.

On the par 3’s nearest the pins only 2 holes had names on them not easy par 3’s here with the shortest being 175 mtrs off the yellow tees. Hole 8 NTP. Geoff Betts and Hole 12 NTP. Geoff Shand
What a great day and for sure we will be back, be it not till 2013 ….what a long time to wait!.

Our next game is our Christmas Stableford Competion at El Plantio on Tuesday 18th.December with lots of things going on so get your names in early.

TORREGOLF.EU at La Peraleja

Event : La Peraleja - The First Visit for

RAIN what rain, yes we promised our members sunshine and perfect conditions to play golf and yes that’s what was provided to them with when we visited on Wednesday 14th, however, many did not believe us so it was their miss for our first visit to this lovely Sevi Ballesteros course which we subsidised cost wise on the day.

We played our usual Stebleford competition which unfortunately had to be rearranged on the day causing a few problems but all turned out well and though scores in general were on the low size it was enjoyed by all.

Winners on the day,
Category 1.1st. Peter Kerr 36 points.2nd.Geoff Shand 30 and on 26 Mick O’Brien
Category 2. 1st. Ken Holmes 31 points. 2nd. Alan Darby 28 3rd. Chris Butland 26.

TORREGOLF.EU at Altorreal

Event : Altorreal Friday 19th October

Friday 19th. was according to the local weather forecast to be a day of rain, rain and more rain so it was expected to not be a great day in many ways but this is Spain and what happened, yes, a beautiful day of golf was enjoyed by our members and guests with no rain, in fact perfect conditions, on a course that was in great condition. It has to be said though that it has been a long time since we have found a course with greens that were as fast as they were Friday.

The playing format was our usual Stableford one with 4 Categories as we had a few guests with us and this resulted with the 1st.& 2nd spots in the guests category going to husband and wife team of Davd Gutsell 35 points and Fiona with 28.

TORREGOLF.EU back at El Plantio

Event : Home Course Return - TorreGolf at El Plantio

Wednesday saw us returning to our home course for the first time in what appears to be ages, our last scheduled visit being cancelled due to the state of the course, However, have to say even though work is on going and lots of staff working on the when we arrived to putt out the course is still not as we have always expected El Plantio to be and being as we had arranged a bumper of a day it was disappointing.

Yes, with 32 members lining up on every tee on the 9 hole course for a shot gun start at 9am. it reminded us of being back in England, why, dew everywhere!

With lots of money to be won we kicked off with the first 5 top scores taking money home and yes in 1st.Place with 25 points Peter Kerr, 2nd. Ron Chambers 24, 3rd. Brian Coombes 23, 4th. on a countback, Brian Mulligan from Mick Hart both with 22.

After a bacon baguette and coffee we all lined up again at 11.20 for 18 holes on the championship course with the weather now being perfect for golf. Scores have to say were not the best with only a third playing making more than 30 points.

Now laugh of the day…….one member who does not wish to be named, shame on you Chris! Put his 3rd.shot into the water on the 17th. not an unusual experience but having taken a drop hit his 4th shot straight up in the air about a meter and it came straight back down on the spot where he played the shot from. Work that one out!

Overall everyone had a great day and the results left many with more money to take home and they were Best Front 9 Chris Butler 20 points Best back 9 Dunstan Taylor 22 on a c/b from El Presidente but how can you win when one gets 5 points for a birdie 3 on the 17th. Shame on you Dunstan!

Nearest the pins. Hole 7 our nearest the pin “King”, Alan Darby sure he will win our end of year prize for the most NTP’s. Hole 9 Geof Betts. Hole 14 Susan Owens Hole 18 Ross Murrell. Our nearest the pin 4th.shot on our sponsored Costa Blanca News, Hole 12 David Gill.

In our Stableford competition the winners were Category 1. 1st. Ron Matthews 39 points 2nd.Ross Morrell 37 points 3rd. Dunstan Taylor on c/b from Chris Butler 33 points. Category 2. 1st. Alan Derby 40 points, 2nd. Brian Mulligan 39, 3rd. Brian Coombes 34, 4th. Peter Kerr 33. Category 3. 1st. Gail Green the first game with us and couldn’t believe she had won with 35 points decided upon receipt of paper money to dance all round the Terrace showing every one. Well done Gail we would like to see more of your dancing talents in the future. 2nd. David Winder 33 points. 3rd. Christopher Rose 29. 4th. Liam Higgins 27 points.

As has been said GREAT DAY.

September Anniversary Dinner/Dance

Event : Tuesday 25th.September Anniversary Dinner/Dance

Tuesday 25th.September saw 86 members and guests attend the 2nd. Anniversary Dinner/Dance at El Raso Restaurant, El Raso, Guardamar de Segura.

Besides great food supplied by Mario & Katy we were entertained by Miss. Celena Deans, fantastic singer! Come again Celena. We also had many great raffle prizes including free rounds of golf at El Plantio and Golf Altorreal.

Great evening! Enjoyed by all.

Pictures taken of all members and guests enjoying the evening.

Event : Friday 14th TORREGOLF.EU at La Torre

Friday 14th.saw our Club play this Jack Nicklaus course for the first time. Course in great condition with the fairways like carpet to walk on however comments from many members “should have bought our buckets and spades”, yes little did some know that when you play a JN course you are going to get plenty of bunkers and water!, subsequently this reflected in the scoring. One other thing that should be noted the course does have a problem with insufficient buggies and their reliability, do hope they rectify this in the future because it did cause some problems.

Our normal Stableford competition resulted in prize money going to
Category 1. 1st. Paul Hurrell 34 points, 2nd. Sue Owens 32 points, 3rd. Phil Brigham 30 points.
Category 2. 1st. Peter Kerr 32 points, 2nd. Vince Lannon 30 points, 3rd.Tommy Boyle 29 points.
Category 3. 1st. El Presidente 30 points, 2nd.Bill Wylie 28 points, 3rd. Roger Twigg 26 points.

Nearest the pins, just 2 members taking the honours, Hole 3 & 11, Sue Owens. Hole 9 & 17, Alan Darby. Longest drive on Hole 10, went once again to the “THE HULK”, Paul Hurrell. Think we might have to ban that new Driver Paul.

Our next outing is back to our home course El Plantio on Wednesday 3rd.October when we will attack not only the 9 hole course but then the 18 hole one and this will be followed by a visit to Altorreal on the 19th October, so if you would like to come and join us and enjoy some of the cheapest golf on the Costa’s and hopefully also support our association with The Full Monte and CD Montesinos, (, then contact or give him a call on 626 774 157.

TORREGOLF.EU at Font Del Llop

Event : A Hot One At Font Del Llop

Tuesday 25th. saw us back at Font del Llop due to a high noon change from El Plantio due to hollow tinning, 20 hours earlier. Our thanks to Font del Llop for getting us out to play at the last moment.
Very warm day and not sure if we would have managed without buggies but did find the course in very good condition except for some hollow tinning taking place on some of the greens on the back 9.

Results on the day for our normal Stableford Competition saw in Category 1.
1st. Spence Andrews with 35 points, not sure how he did it because he only flew in the night previous and had not had time to adjust from the rain of the UK to the heat we are experiencing here at the moment. 2nd. Paul Hurrell 33 points 3rd. Roy Middleton 31.
Category 2, 1st. Peter Kerr 34 points 2nd.Brian Coombes 33 and 3rd.Bradley Kerr 30.

Nearest the Pins Hole 8. Paul Hurrell Hole 17. Alan Darby. No body managed the 12th! and the longest drive on hole 18 went to Vic Souter. However it should be mentioned that Paul Hurrell with his new driver!! was within probably 15 mtrs. of the water’s edge but not on the fairway, sorry Paul must try harder!

After the game we returned to El Raso Restaurant for the results and a little Tapas many thanks to Mario,Katy and Staff for looking after us.

Our next games are La Torre on Tuesday 14th.September for a 10am 1st.tee time and then we have our big day at El Plantio on the 3rd.October for a shot gun start for the par 3 course at 9am followed by an 18 hole Stableford Competition starting at 11am.

For more information on our Club call David Winder on 626 774 157 or email him at . Our picture for the winners and some guests taken after our game at El Raso Restaurant. TORREGOLF.EU at Font del Llop

Event : TORREGOLF.EU at Font del Llop 10/08/2012

Friday the 10th. Saw us back at Font del Lop on a really sizzling day of heat, it was not that bad and from time to time we had a nice cooling breeze, so those that decided not to take the risk you missed out on a great day.

The course was in great shape however, the greens were very slow due to the fact that a couple of greens had been cut and guess what they had been burnt so it was understandable that greens were generally a little longer than normal. No great deal, this is what golf is all about, coping with the conditions.

We had our general Stableford Competition but due to reduced numbers only 2 Categories. Very low scoring day with only 1 member getting 30 points, why, not sure!

Therefore results on the day
Category 1. 1st. Mick O’Brien 30 points 2nd. Alan Darby on c/b from Ron Chambers 26 points.
Category 2. 1st. Sandra Twentyman 28 points 2nd. El Presidente 26 and 3rd. Christopher Rose 22 points.
Nearest the pins to-day, Hole 8. Sandra Twentyman Hole 12. Peter Kerr and Hole 16 Alan Darby.
Our next outing is back to our home course El Plantio on Tuesday 28th.August and following that the Jack Nicklaus course at La Torre on Friday 14th.September. (one for the Ladies!)

If you would like more information about our Club give David Winder a call on 626 774 157 or email him at Our picture to-day shows the winners on the day plus our only guest.

Guests always welcome!

TORREGOLF.EU at El Plantio

Event : TORREGOLF.EU at El Plantio 24th July

Tuesday saw us back to our home course for our normal Stabeleford Competition in glorious conditions, a little warm but it’s that time of the year , however we all managed to enjoy the day though have to say on the 1st. hole Vic Souter had a problem, the 4 ball he was in all teed off but when they all came to play there 2nd.shot Vic’s ball could not be found or so it was thought, why, after the allotted time to look for the ball it was finally found in a discarded plastic bag, yes, how did it got there ?? what are the rules for such a position?.

Outcome Vic decided to play it in the bag and luckily enough while in flight, bag and all, it came apart. One for the rule book! Please remember to keep your litter locked up!

Have to say it was noticeable to-day the amount of pitch marks found on the greens, sure it was not from us but you should all remember to repair pitch marks to make life better not only for those playing on the day but for the green keeper.
With once again a fabulous price for the day and double money to win the results were Category 1. 1st. Paul Hurrell 36 points, 2nd. Colin Mackman 32, 3rd. Alan Darby 30 on a count back from 4th.Vince Lannon.
Category 2. 1st. Brian Coombes 34 points on count backs from 2nd.Sandra Twentyman and 3rd. Pauline Johnston went to Reg Palmer 29

The nearest the pin prizes Holes 7 & 14 Paul Hurrell, Hole 9 Roy Middleton and Hole 18 Tony Mackman. The 4th.shot nearest the pin on our sponsored Costa Blanca News hole 12, resulted in no one getting anywhere near it. The longest drive on Hole 17 went to; yes you’ve guessed it, (The Hulk), Paul Hurrell. Yes, it was certainly Paul’s day well done! But he did not win the scratch card and Pauline Johnston went home with 20 Euros in her purse The MTH prize went to Syd Avery.

Our next outing is to Font del Llop on Friday 10th.August followed by El Plantio on the 28th. So if you would like to be a member of the Club supplying some of the cheapest golf on the Costa’s and hopefully at the same time support our local football team CD MONTESINOS then call David Winder on 626 774 157 or email him at .

TORREGOLF.EU at Altorreal

Event : TORREGOLF.EU at Altorreal Golf Friday 6th.July

Today saw us back at this lovely course just north of the city of Murcia to play our usual Stableford competition. With very little breeze to cool everyone down in the severe heat it was going to be a hard day, WRONG, because 14 players recorded more than 30 points.

Results were as follows nearest the pins Hole 5 Geoff Betts. Hole 8 Mick Gossage. Hole 10 Mark Palmer. Hole 17 Mike Zebadee. The winners of our Stableford game being:
Category 1. 1st. Geoff Betts 40 points. 2nd.Phil Brigham 36 on c/b from Chris Butler. Category 2. 1st.Vince Lannon 43 points. 2nd.Alan Darby 32 and 3rd. Reg Palmer 31. Catedory 3.1st. Mike Zebadee 40 points. 2nd. Peter Kerr 30 3rd.Roger Twigg 30.
Best front 9. Geoff Betts 23 points Best back 9. Vince Lannon 22 points

Incident of the Day….Alan Moody on the 13th.Hole hit his tee shot into trees on the left hand side and finished up in a ditch some 2+ feet deep with his ball hard up against the edge of the ditch. Not playable, but Alan said give me an 8 iron and proceeded to balance on the edge of the ditch hardly able to reach the ball and proceeded to hit the ball not only out of the ditch but miss all the trees and finish up just off the fairway with and easy shot to the green and then made a comment “should have taken a 7 iron”. While talking about Alan he also was able to complete another mission while here on the Costa Blanca, his brother died 2 years ago and just before he passed away they played a round of golf at Villamartin which he loved and Alan on his visit now was able to deposit his ashes behind the and complete something he has wanted to do for the last 24 months.

Our football scratch cards on the day each winning 20 Euros goes to 1. Paul Looseley and 2. Alan Moody

Our next outing is back to our home course El Plantio on the 24th.July followed by Font del Llop on the 5th.August both with rates that are perhaps some of the cheapest on the Costa’s.

If interested in joining our golf club and maybe follow the exploits of CD Montesinos in their quest for promotion in the new season then contact David Winder at or call him on 626 774 157.
